Mahindra showcased the electric Verito at the 2012 Auto Expo. According to the REVA founder Chetan Maini, the electric Verito will be launched in 2014. REVA, which was taken over by Mahindra two years ago, is working on electric variants of all Mahindra vehicles. Mahindra REVA is already developing electric versions of the Scorpio and Bolero. The company has also developed electric versions of the Geo and Maxximo light trucks. Thus Mahindra REVA is working on offering electric versions of all Mahindra vehicles in the future.
The Mahindra Verito Electric Vehicle (EV) could be offered in sub 4-metre guise, thereby helping the company price it very aggressively. The vehicle has a 29 KW AC motor which gives it a capacity of 100 kms on single charge. The Li-Ion battery takes 6 hours to charge and offer a top speed of 86 km/h. The Quick Charge technology of REVA enables decent charge in just 75 minutes. There is no clutch, nor gears and one has to select between forward, reverse, neutral and boost mode.
Mahindra Reva recently inaugurated its Bangalore facility, which will churn out the Reva NXR electric vehicle. The NXR is the next generation of the Reva and is a huge leap over the original Reva. It will be offered in a range of variants, offering different battery options to the buyer. The Reva NXR is expected to be priced around Rs. 4.5 lakhs and will be a 4-seater. More electric variants from Reva is a very good move and soon we will see Verito man with power cord in his hands.
