Mahindra 2-Wheelers has inaugurated its R&D Centre in Pune today, which is the third largest two wheeler R&D facility in India. The company has also revealed its future plans for two-wheelers and has announced the developments at the R&D Centre. The company will be launching the Mahindra Rodeo RZ 125cc power scooter in South India in the next three weeks. Mahindra has also announced that it will be launching three new motorcycles in the market within the next 12 months. The Stallio will be launched before the festive season, while the Mojo will be launched in January-March 2013. The third bike was not disclosed.
Anand Mahindra and Anoop Mathur are present at the event. Anand Mahindra says that they are on target to achieve a revenue of Rs. 20,000 crore by 2020. Mahindra 2-Wheelers has filed 12 patents along with recruiting 200 new engineers. 110cc and 300cc engines near completion. The most important development is the Duro micro-hybrid, which will boast of higher fuel efficiency than normal scooters and is also the first scooter with Micro Hybrid technology. Mahindra has invested Rs. 100 crore already in its 2-Wheeler division and plans to invest another Rs. 500 crore in the next 5 years,
The R&D centre houses a design studio, engine development and testing centre and Computer Aided Engineering / Computational Fluid Dynamics facilities. Clearly Mahindra does not want to be left behind in the highly competitive 2-Wheeler market. The company is showing commitment by investing into future technology. With Mahindra able to benefit from high local content, could the 300cc Mojo shake up the performance motorcycle segment. Exciting times indeed for bikers.
