The all-new 2014 Audi A3 sedan will arrive in the U.S. markets by the end of this year against the earlier announcement which said that American markets will have to wait till 2014. Audi America has confirmed the same. Perhaps, it is speculated that A3 sedan will be publicly unveiled in the month of September at the 2014 Paris Auto Show. Early this year, Audi unveiled the new A3 hatchback, as well as the new A3 convertible, at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show. The redesigned model which is the third generation A3 uses the Volkswagen Group MQB platform which is a highly flexible platform architecture. To create excitement, Audi released three photos of the new A3 sedan on its Facebook page.
Audi has also confirmed its plans to bring the A3 to India in 2013 via the CKD route. The Audi A3 will compete with the Mercedes CLA-Class, which is based on Mercedes-Benz’ MFA platform. These vehicles will create a new segment, which will slot below the current entry-level luxury sedans, which comprises of the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4. The Audi A3 will help the German car maker to become number 1 in the Indian market, thereby displacing BMW from its dominating position.
The current generation Audi A3 measures 4237 mm in length and 1421 mm in height. Currently Audi is offering 2 TFSI petrol engines, namely the 1.4 and 1.8 litre and 1 TDI diesel engine of 2.0 litre capacity for the A3. The 1.4 litre TFSI produces 122 BHP of power and a torque of 200Nm at 1500 RPM. On the other hand, the 1.8 litre TSFI produces 180 BHP of power and 250Nm of torque between 1250 and 5000 RPM. The 2.0 litre TDI engine produces 150 BHP of power and 320 Nm of torque.
