Ford launched the Figo in India more than two years ago and since then, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20 facelift, Honda Jazz facelift, Renault Pulse and Tata Indica facelift have hit the market. Naturally product upgrades generate interest in the market and now the American automaker is working on the facelift of the Ford Figo. This facelift of the Ford Figo could hit the markets as early as October 2012 and will be a mid-life makeover to keep things fresh for the Figo.
The Ford Figo facelift was spotted by a Motor Vikatan reader in Chennai. The Figo spotted on test features a yellow paintjob and has redesigned tail lights with black tape masking. Other changes still remain a mystery but Ford could make changes to the front as well, giving the Figo slightly re-designed headlights and a new bumper. The 2013 Ford Figo could also carry additional equipment to tackle new entrants in the segment. However Ford will maintain the aggressive pricing on the Figo, which has been hugely responsible for the success of the Figo in the Indian market.
Ford will not slip in the Fiesta’s 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine in the Figo anytime soon. The company will only use this powerplant in the next generation Figo. Currently the Figo is powered by the 1.4-litre TCDi engine, which gives Ford huge cost advantage. Ford could consider plonking in the 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine in the Figo sometime in the near future. Other than the good performance it offers, the EcoBoost engine is high on efficiency, which could revive sales of the petrol-powered Figo. The company might offer a non-turbocharged version of the EcoBoost engine in the Figo to minimize costs.
