Would a car that hovers few feet above the ground while traveling excite you? Well, the German auto giant, Volkswagen is indeed working on such a concept. Named the Volkswagen Hover Car, it channels a mix of Back to the Future and The Jetsons and creates a lot of excitement in the personal mobility segment. Volkswagen China has been running a project called “People’s Car Project” in China for over a year in which the customers give their views about what the future people’s car would be like.
Volkswagen has inspired 33 million website visitors and 119,000 unique ideas for possible products and technologies till date and the Hover Car is one of the top three such concepts. Luca de Meo, Director of Marketing, Volkswagen Group said that the company is no longer just building cars for, but also with customers and at the same time initiating a national dialog which gives them a deep insight into the design preferences, needs and requirements of Chinese customers.
The top 3 ideas that the company selected were developed as concepts and displayed at the Beijing Motor Show. Volkswagen defines the car as an all-electric two-seat city car that hovers just above the ground and travels along electromagnetic roadways. Volkswagen thinks that the current trend for customers is to pick safe cars that can easily navigate overcrowded roads and have a personal, emotional and exciting design, a philosophy that the Hover Car fulfils perfectly.
