The next generation Skoda Fabia is all set to hit showrooms in 2014 and a Czechoslovakian website claims that these images are the real deal. The Mk3 Fabia will be an all new model with significant changes being made to the vehicle. The 2012 Skoda Fabia will be based on Volkswagen’s MQB (Modular Transverse Matrix) platform and will feature more interior room and an increased boot as well. The current Fabia has a boot of 315-litres, which will be increased to 350-litres with the all new Fabia. This boot space will be among the best in its class, second only to the Honda Jazz.
The 2014 Skoda Fabia looks quite sharp and the design changes give it a very appealing look. Based largely on the Skoda VisionD Concept, the next generation Fabia will be lighter and feature a longer wheelbase. The new Skoda Fabia will be powered by the next generation of engines, which would include a modern 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder TDI unit and the 1.2-litre petrol engine. Both these engines will offer similar levels of power as the current engines but with increase efficiency and better driveability. The next generation Volkswagen Polo will share most of its components with the next generation Fabia and is expected to arrive around the same time.
The current generation Skoda Fabia was launched in 2007 and brought to India in the same year. The Mark 2 (5J) model also spawns the Roomster and Scout versions of the car. Skoda gave the Fabia a mid-life minor facelift in 2010 and the next generaton model as highly awaited, since the MK2 Fabia will be 7 years old by then. Production will take place at Volkswagen’s Chakan facility and the next generation Fabia will spawn the second generation Rapid in 2015. Prices are expected to remain more or less the same as competition intensifies in the Indian market.
