Bajaj Auto has sold its 5 millionth Pulsar in March 2012, which is a record of sorts for the Chakan based automaker. The company first launched the Pulsar in 2001 and since then there has been no looking back for Bajaj. The Pulsar has revolutionized the Indian motorcycle industry and the company claims it sells five times of what Japanese sport bikes sell. All these 5 million (50 lakh) units sold are of the first generation model and although Bajaj has not revealed which variant accounted for a majority of the 5 million, we feel its the Pulsar 150 which has a significant share of the units sold.
“The highest ever annual sales (of motorcycles). Pulsar cumulative sales exceeded 5 million units since launch,” Bajaj Auto said in a statement.
Bajaj Auto is gearing up to launch the next generation Pulsar later this month. The first variant of the second generation Pulsar to go on sale will be the Pulsar 200 NS, which is expected to be priced around Rs. 95,000/- (on-road, Pune). With the 2-wheeler industry all set to grow and people’s purchasing power also increasing simultaneously, we expect Bajaj Auto to reach the 10 million milestone faster than they took to reach the 5 million one.
