The Korea based car company who enjoys the second largest market share in the Indian automotive market is expected to bring in the facelift of one of its premium models much sooner than expected. The car we are talking about here is the facelifted Hyundai i20. The Hyundai i20 was spotted in flesh by GoaOnWheels at a dealer in Goa which makes us believe that the launch of the facelifted i20 is just around the corner. Remember Hyundai unveiled the Fluidic i20 at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show earlier this month.
The 2013 Hyundai i20 gets a total makeover of the front fascia with the fluidic treatment evident from its swept back headlamps, hexagonal front grille and redesigned bumpers. The Asta variant has got LED integrated in the fog lamps. At the rear also the car gets some slight makeovers in terms of redesigned tail lamps and rear bumpers. There is a reverse camera hidden behind the Hyundai logo on the boot. The side profile however remains similar to the current model. The interiors get minor updates too with the AC vents now vertically stacked instead of horizontally. Slight change in colours on the dashboard has been done as well.
Under the hood, the car continues to be powered by the same 1.2-litre (now with VTVT) and 1.4-litre petrol engines and the 1.4-litre diesel engine. The power and torque figures are not revealed yet and we expect the fuel economy to be bumped up slightly. A 5-speed manual and a 4 speed automatic gearbox (only on the 1.4-litre petrol) will be available. The car will be available in 9 variants with the Sportz variant featuring ABS, driver airbag, reverse camera, etc.
Hyundai has also worked on the weak points of the old i20 and improved the new version by addressing some crucial issues. The rattles seem to be rectified, while NVH levels have been improved as well. The launch of the updated i20 will take place in the first week of April and Hyundai is expected to revise prices in-line with the increase in excise duty on passenger cars. Although the prices of the i20 will make the car quite expensive compared to other hatchbacks, the features being offered by the company somewhat justifies the pricing.
