Hyundai will be launching the seventh generation Sonata as early as 2014. The Korean automaker first launched the sixth generation Hyundai Sonata in South Korea in September 2009, while it was launched in the North American market in early 2010. It came to India just recently, with Hyundai announcing the launch at the 2012 Auto Expo. The current generation Sonata has not only brought design accolades to Hyundai but has also beocme the top selling model for the company in the US.
Hyundai will launch the next generation model of the Sonata in the second half of 2014, which is expected to be bigger than the current Sonata. The company will bring the new Sonata to India in 2015 and we can expect the vehicle to get a diesel heart then. Currently the Sonata is a very competent D-segment car, but lacks some crucial features like distance to empty. Hyundai can take the opportunity to fine tuning the handling of the Sonata and make it more sharper. Currently the Sonata is more tuned towards comfort.
The next generation Hyundai Sonata will draw heavy cues from the i-oniq Concept which was showcased recently at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Currently Hyundai offers only petrol engines on the Sonata, with two variants of the 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre engines each on offer. With demand shifting towards diesel, there is little doubt that Hyundai will develop a diesel engine for the next generation Sonata. Expect the new Sonata to be loaded with even more features than the current model.
