Honda Motorcycles has gone aggressive post its break up with Hero. The Japanese automaker had showcased a range of products at the 2012 Auto Expo, which the company plans to get to India to go from number three to numero uno in the next few years. One such product (the 2012 Honda CBR250R) has been launched already, while the next big launch from Honda is the CBR150R by the end of this month. This will be followed by the mass commuter motorcycle, called the Dream Yuga. The Honda Dream Yuga will be a critical model, which will help the company increase its sales tremendously.
Currently Hero MotoCorp is the number 1 two-wheeler manufacturer in India, with Bajaj Auto at number 2. Honda is at third position ahead of TVS and Yamaha by a comfortable margin. The Dream Yuga will help Honda come closer to Bajaj in terms of sales as the Japanese automaker currently lacks a commuter motorcycle, which can get them the volumes. Hero’s Splendor and CD Dawn get a major chunk of sales for the company, while the Discover does it for Bajaj. For TVS it is the StaR City, while Yamaha is selling decent numbers of the YBR.
The Honda Dream Yuga will be offered in two variants (one basic, while the other with tubeless tyres and optional front disc brake) and will be priced around Rs. 40,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will be powered by a 110 cc petrol motor which produces a power of 9 PS. Honda claims the Dream Yuga gives segment leading mileage figures of 72 km/l. Honda plans to take the attack to Bajaj by expanding production capacity and dealership network but Bajaj Auto will not wait to react and has lined up the next generation Pulsar and Discover launches for the later half of the year.
