The US based car maker, Ford Motors is all set to bring out its puny but ferocious 1.0 litre engine. The engine would be fitted by Ford in its high end performance vehicles. The new 1.0 litre engine is a 3 cylinder featuring twin sequential turbochargers to boost the power output. Without the turbochargers the 1.0 litre produces an impressive 123 BHP of power. But it seems the engineers at Ford weren’t quite satisfied with this performance output figure. They went on and fitted 2 sequential turbochargers thus taking the power output from 123 BHP to a mighty 177 BHP! So, much power coming from an engine having just 1000cc of displacement volume is really nerve shaking.
Mr. Gunnar Herrmann, the vehicle line director for the Ford Focus in which the 1.0 litre engine is going to make its debut commented that “It’s a stretch, but possible.” He also confirmed that by 2015 Ford will be replacing its naturally aspirated 1.6 litre, 4 cylinder engines with the new EcoBoost 1.0 litre engine. He added that the 1.0 litre engine in Ford Focus will be debuting shortly. Its rumoured that Ford already has a funcitional prototype of this engine but that utilizes a small electric supercharger instead of the twin sequential turbochargers which hands over power to another turbocharger from the 1.6-litre Ecoboost engine.
