Nissan will be launching the Evalia MPV in India in the month of August. The 2012 Nissan Evalia was first showcased at the 11th Auto Expo last month and will be the challenger to the Toyota Innova. The Japanese automaker will also double the production at their Orgadam facility to 4 lakh units from next month. This is being done with the introduction of a second production line at their plant. But where do so many units go? Nissan has been utilizing the low cost manufacturing base to export vehicles to global markets. Currently the Nissan Micra is being exported to select countries while the Made in India Sunny too will make inroads there.
The Nissan Evalia MPV is a 7-seater model and has slight changes have been made to it for sale in India. The Evalia is being produced in collaboration with Ashok Leyland. The Evalia features button start, reverse guide camera, ABS, airbags and alloy wheels as stadard. The vehicle is also the New York taxi and is known as the NV200 van elsewhere. Nissan is not only doubling production but also its dealership outlets to 100 in 2013. Currently Nissan has 50 dealerships in India.
The Nissan Evalia is powered by the same tried and test 1.5-litre DCi engine, which now powers a slew of Renault-Nissan cars in the country. The same engine is also used in the Mahindra Verito and could soon find its way into the Xylo Compact MUV. There will be no petrol version of the Evalia as the segment has seen little success with petrol powered MPVs. The 1.5-litre DCi motor produces 100 bhp of power and around 240 Nm of torque to ensure the Evalia shifts_the way you move!
