Maruti Suzuki is known for launching limited edition models quite often. The company has launched limited edition variants of almost all its cars in India (except the CBUs of course). But why doesn’t it do a limited edition of the Omni? The Omni is targeted to the commercial segment due to which Maruti Suzuki might not find a limited edition run viable. The company had showcased the Omni Cuppa Joy at the 2012 Auto Expo and we like what we see.
The modifications to the Maruti Omni Cuppa Joy make it look like an entirely different vehicle altogether. The body kit and additional lights at the front give it a very chunky appeal, which the regular Omni lacks. The side is almost the same but gets a side skirt along with alloy wheels. The roof opens up too. At the rear there is mild changes as well. If Maruti Suzuki can offer this for a premium of Rs. 20,000/- (without the LCD screens ofcourse) over the regular Omni, it could be a success.
Maruti Suzuki sold 5949 units of the Omni last month, which results in the vehicle featuring in the top 15 selling cars of July 2012. The vehicle is powered by a 800cc, 3-cylinder engine which produces 35 BHP of power at 5000 RPM and 61 Nm of torque at 3000 RPM. While the power is nothing to talk about, the low weight of 785 kgs makes it decently quick. The Omni range starts at Rs. 2.89 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai) for the 5-seater BS-IV model. It is also available in 8-seater configuration and an LPG option for BS-III markets.
