The all new Maruti Suzuki Swift has won the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) award, while the Honda CBR250R swept away the Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) award 2012. These awards are similar to American, Japanese and European Car of the Year. A whole list of parameters were used to judge the winner, with the Hyundai Verna, Hyundai Eon, Honda Brio and Toyota Etios Liva fighting it out with the Swift in the end. The Hero Impulse, Bajaj Boxer BM150, Harley-Davidson Iron, Kawasaki Ninja 650R and Hyosung 650N were the motorcycles which gave the CBR250R tough competition.
The Honda Brio came in second, while the Hyundai Eon came in third. In bikes, the Hero Impulse and Hyosung GT650N were the runners up. Honda CBR250R winning the award is no surprise as MotorBeam readers selected the bike as their Bike of the year 2011. However the Swift winning was a bit of a surprise. Yes, the Swift is a fantastic car but has its shortcomings. Add to that, there were so many other cars which deserved to win, like the Mahindra XUV5OO and the Hyundai Eon. The Maruti craze is not only prevalent in the aam-junta but the jurors too (not that its a bad thing)!.
