Ford India had announced eight new models by 2015. Living on that promise, the company recently announced its second plant in the country at Gujarat. This plant will most likely commence production by 2013 and will produce a sub-Figo small car. The small car from the American automaker will be its smallest yet and will be exported to China and Brazil from the nearby port. The small car will compete against the Maruti Suzuki A-Star and the Hyundai i10. It is expected to be launched in 2014 and will be priced around Rs. 3-4 lakh.
The Sanand facility will roll out the first vehicle in 2014 and this new small car will most likely be the one to grace the occasion. The small car project has already commenced with Ford’s R&D center in Brazil working on the same. The company has already started approaching components suppliers for local manufacturing of the upcoming vehicle. The small car is dode named B562 and will be built on an all new platform. It will be powered by a 1.0-liter Ecoboost petrol engine and a toned down version of the 1.4-liter Duratorq diesel engine.
