Yet another Tata Motors vehicle was spotted today undergoing routine tests on the outskirts of Pune. The Tata Magic Iris sans camouflage and badges was cruising at 40 kmph. The Magic Iris is Tata Motors vision to replace the age old auto rickshaws in our cities. The company is going for a area wise launch and has already launched the Magic Iris in some states. However the company continues to fine tune the vehicle further to ensure it is competent enough to fight with the upcoming Bajaj ULC based people mover.
The Tata Magic Iris is powered by a 611cc, water cooled, indirect injection diesel engine that produces 11 BHP of power and mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. With a top speed of 60 kmph and a seating capacity of five (including the driver), the Magic Iris is clearly faster, safer and roomier than our auto rickshaws. A CNG powered version is on the cards as well with prices revolving around Rs. 2 lakhs. The Magic Iris returns a mileage of 25 kmpl for the diesel version, which is fantastic for this people mover.
