Volkswagen will launch the new Golf GTI exclusively through online sales in India
Volkswagen is gearing up to expand its performance vehicle portfolio in India with the upcoming launch of the new Golf GTI. Following the debut of the 2025 Tiguan R-Line, scheduled for April 14, the much-anticipated Golf GTI will arrive shortly after—offering driving enthusiasts a hot hatch experience that blends performance with modern technology.
In a shift from traditional dealership sales, Volkswagen has confirmed that the Golf GTI will be sold exclusively through online channels. Customers will be able to explore, configure and book the car via the brand’s official website. More information regarding pre-bookings, colour choices and available variants is expected to be shared in the coming weeks.
The new Golf GTI will come in its facelifted Mk 8.5 version and will be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. This powertrain produces 269 BHP and 370 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Volkswagen claims that the GTI can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in just 5.9 seconds, while its top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/hr.
This digital-only sales approach marks a new strategy for Volkswagen in India, potentially offering a more streamlined and tech-savvy purchase process for customers. The Golf GTI’s arrival also reflects growing interest in performance hatchbacks and it is likely to appeal to buyers seeking a combination of speed, agility and everyday usability.
With the launch of the Tiguan R-Line just around the corner and the Golf GTI following soon after, Volkswagen seems poised to strengthen its presence in the premium and performance segments of the Indian automotive market.
