2025 Volvo XC90 facelift debuts in India with refreshed design and upgraded tech
2025 Volvo XC90 facelift launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 1.03 crores (ex-showroom). The updated model carries a slight price increase over the previous version and brings with it a series of exterior design tweaks, new technology features and some equipment upgrades.
Exterior Updates
The latest iteration of the XC90 retains the familiar silhouette of the luxury SUV but incorporates refreshed design elements influenced by Volvo’s flagship electric SUV, the EX90. Key changes include a revised front grille with diagonal slats, slimmer ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED headlights and new bumpers.
At the rear, the tail-lamps feature a darker tint, enhancing the SUV’s road presence. The alloy wheel design has also been updated. For those opting for the air suspension, the ground clearance can be increased to 267 mm, up from the standard 238 mm.
Volvo has also introduced a new Mulberry Red exterior shade, joining the existing palette of Onyx Black, Crystal White, Denim Blue, Bright Dusk and Vapour Grey.
Interior and Technology
Inside the cabin, the overall layout remains largely unchanged, retaining the black leather upholstery and minimalist Scandinavian design. The most notable upgrade is the new 11.2-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, replacing the older 9-inch unit. This updated system runs on Google-based software, providing over-the-air (OTA) software updates for improved convenience.
Volvo claims the touchscreen resolution has been improved to enhance usability. Other luxury features like a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, 360-degree camera system, head-up display, memory seats and an air purifier with PM 2.5 filtration continue to be part of the equipment list.
Powertrain: Mild-Hybrid Petrol Continues
Under the hood, the facelifted XC90 retains the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, paired with a mild-hybrid system. The power output stands at 250 HP and 360 Nm of torque, delivered to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Volvo claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in 7.7 seconds.
Market Positioning and Rivals
With a price increase of approximately Rs. 2 lakhs over the outgoing version, the 2025 XC90 facelift continues to compete in the luxury SUV space, taking on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5 and Audi Q7.
While the XC90, like the Audi Q7, is only available with a petrol powertrain, both Mercedes and BMW offer diesel engine options in addition to their petrol variants. The Audi Q7 remains the most affordable offering in this segment, positioning the XC90 as a slightly more premium alternative.
Conclusion
With subtle design enhancements, an upgraded infotainment system and a retained focus on safety and comfort, the 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift aims to strengthen its appeal among luxury SUV buyers in India. Its Google-powered infotainment system and clean Scandinavian design ethos continue to set it apart in a segment dominated by German rivals.
