Mercedes Has Recalled E-Class,C-Class, GLC, G-Class, S-Class, AMG GT & E63
Mercedes has recalled the E-Class and C-Class sedans to address an issue regarding the Engine Control Module (ECU). This is in addition to a separate recall that affects the GLC and G-Class SUVs, S-Class, AMG GT and E63. The recall for the latter concerns the fuel delivery module, which may not meet specifications. Let’s have a closer look at what length it affects the customers.
Mercedes ECU Recall
The recall affects 2543 E-Class models made between April 29, 2022 and August 20, 2024. Surprisingly, it affects only 3 C-Class models made between August 31, 2021 and October 31, 2021. All of the concerned models are Petrol.
The SIAM document suggests that the glitch with the ECU has the potential to deactivate the fuel injection when exiting sailing mode. Sailing mode is a feature that allows the car to coast more naturally when the driver takes off the foot from the accelerator pedal, aiding comfort and fuel economy. The deactivation of the fuel injection system can lead to the car losing propulsion without prior warning, creating the possibility of collision.
Faulty Fuel Delivery System Recall
The recall related to GLC and G-Class SUVs, S-Class and the AMG GT and E63 tries to resolve the issue of a faulty fuel delivery module. The module can cause the fuel pump to switch off which can lead to the vehicle losing propulsion, significantly increasing the chance of accident or injury.
Outlook
Mercedes has faced issues with their fuel pumps internationally as well. In June 2023, they needed to recall almost 80000 vehicles related to faulty fuel pumps. This unfortunate reality shows an issue in the supply chain leading to the recalls and reputational damage. The German luxury brand needs to instill confidence amongst new buyers.
