BMW has launched the long-wheelbase version of the electric version of the X1 at Auto Expo 2025. It is called the BMW iX1 L. According to BMW, the iX1 L is the first electric SUV to feature a long wheelbase in India. The iX1 L is also the first locally produced electric BMW! The iX1 L’s introductory prices start from Rs. 49 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Design
The iX1 L looks extremely similar to the regular iX1 L in terms of design with BMW’s signature design elements, including a prominent kidney grille with ‘i’ badging and sleek adaptive LED headlights. However, the most noticeable change is the increase in wheelbase. The standard iX1 comes with a 2692mm wheelbase whereas the iX1 L is offered with a 2800 mm wheelbase! This increase makes the long-wheelbase variant measure 4616 mm in length and the same 1845 mm in width making the SUV longer by 112 mm, making the journey for rear passengers more comfortable.
Powertrain & Battery Information
The iX1 L is powered by a 66.4 kWh battery pack and offers a range of 531 Km on a single charge. The electric SUV’s battery comprises a single motor on the front axle and produces 201 HP and 250 NM of torque! The iX1 L can go from 0-100 km/hr in 8.6 seconds! It can be charged at fast DC Charging at 130kW from 10% to 80% in approximately 29 minutes, adding about 120 km of range in just 10 minutes. An 11 kW AC charger can fully charge the battery in around 6.5 hours. BMW provides a complimentary 11 kW wall box charger with installation, ensuring convenient home charging solutions. BMW gives a warranty of 8 years on the battery which is certainly going to instill confidence in the minds of potential buyers.
Interior
The features of the iX1 L are plentiful like a panoramic sunroof and a 205W 12-Speaker Harman Kardon Sound System. The ix1 L gets the same overall interior design with the curved dual displays housing the infotainment system, multi-information gauge cluster and a floating centre console. The graphics of the displays are suited to the electric nature and show crucial information such as battery range, etc. The M Sport Steering wheel has a sporty design that feels good in the hands. The rear seats are the place to be in the iX1 L as they offer significant comfort as opposed to the iX1 L. The increase in the rear seatroom is surely going to make the BMW an appealing choice for chauffeur-driven executives and the like.
The launch of the BMW iX1 L represents a significant milestone in India’s electric vehicle market, combining BMW’s renowned performance and luxury with locally produced solutions to the growing luxury EV market. The competitive price can convince some luxury brands to produce EV cars in India as opposed to selling them as a CBU model which will be more expensive and less appealing for consumers.
