2025 MINI Convertible is available in Cooper C and S variants

2025 MINI Convertible revealed, the fourth-generation model is now produced at the brand’s historic Oxford factory, comes just months after the debut of the petrol-powered MINI Cooper hatchback. With production at the Netherlands-based VDL Nedcar plant now concluded, MINI has shifted manufacturing back to Oxford, where this new Convertible will be made for international markets.

Powertrain Options: Two Turbo-Petrol Engines

The 2024 MINI Convertible will be available in two versions: the 163 HP Convertible C and the more powerful 204 HP Convertible S. Both variants are equipped with turbo-petrol engines. The Convertible C features a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine, while the Convertible S is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit. Standard across both models is a dual-clutch automatic transmission, as MINI phased out manual transmissions last year.

The Convertible S accelerates from 0-100 km/hr in 6.9 seconds, just 0.3 seconds slower than the MINI Cooper S hatchback due to the additional 40 kg weight from the fabric roof and folding mechanism. The Convertible C reaches the same speed in 8.2 seconds, half a second slower than its hatchback counterpart.

Fabric Roof: Practicality and Flexibility

A key feature of the MINI Convertible is its fabric roof, which can be opened in 18 seconds and closed in 15 seconds, even while driving at speeds of up to 30 km/hr. For added flexibility, the roof can also be partially opened by 40 cm to function like a sunroof. With the roof fully closed, the boot offers 215 litres of cargo space, which is 5 litres more than the hatchback. However, with the roof down, the boot space decreases to 160 litres. Additional standard equipment includes a wind deflector and a hidden rollover-protection system for enhanced safety.

Interior and Trim Options

The interior of the new MINI Convertible mirrors that of the Cooper hatchback, featuring a centrally located 9.5-inch circular infotainment touchscreen that integrates most vehicle controls. Depending on the market, three trim levels are available:

  • Classic: 16-inch wheels, part-faux-leather seats and a black cloth dashboard.
  • Exclusive: 17-inch wheels, full faux leather seats and a beige cloth dashboard.
  • Sport: 18-inch wheels, an aggressive body kit inspired by the John Cooper Works hot hatch, seats upholstered in faux leather and corduroy and paddle shifters for a more dynamic driving experience.

MINI Convertible’s Return to India?

Though not yet confirmed, it is expected that the new MINI Convertible will make its way to India, following the tradition of its predecessors. Recently, the brand expanded its Indian lineup with the MINI Countryman Electric and the new MINI Cooper hatchback.

As MINI’s Oxford factory focuses on petrol models, with a pause on electric vehicle production, the Convertible remains petrol-exclusive for the time being. Given the popularity of convertible models in certain markets, MINI enthusiasts in India can anticipate the possibility of this model arriving soon.
