The future of electric mobility in India is looking super exciting with some big names ready to launch their electric SUVs. Today, we are talking about the top 15 upcoming electric cars that are all set to hit the Indian roads soon. So, if you’re planning to switch to electric, watch this space. Let’s dive in!
1. Mahindra XUV 3XO EV
First up, we have the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, expected to launch before the end of this year. Slated to take on the Tata Nexon EV, this compact electric SUV will pack a range of around 500 km. It will share most of the elements with the XUV 3XO ICE version but it will get distinct styling details including closed EV grille, unique colours and distinct alloy wheels. Looks like a solid city-friendly option, right? It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 14-19 lakhs (ex-showroom)
2. Maruti Suzuki eVX
Next on our list is the much-awaited Maruti Suzuki eVX. Slated for early to mid-2025, this electric SUV is expected to feature a 60 kWh battery offering a range of over 550 km. What’s interesting is that Toyota is also launching a sibling model of the eVX in the second half of 2025. So, plenty of choices for you between Maruti and Toyota. It will be showcased in its production guise at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, where the carmaker will reveal its technical specifications and the list of features on offer. Expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 12-18 lakhs (ex-showroom)
3. Hyundai Creta EV
Now, this is one that’s been spotted testing quite a few times – the Hyundai Creta EV. Launching early next year, it’ll likely borrow tech from the Kona Electric. With a range of 500 km on a single charge and the familiar Creta styling, this one’s going to be a game changer for the EV SUV market. Expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 15-20 lakhs (ex-showroom)
4 & 5. Mahindra XUV.e8 and XUV.e9
Mahindra is going big with their electric lineup and the XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 are proof of that! Launching by 2025, the XUV.e8 is based on the XUV 700 and will come packed with Level 2 ADAS, a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen, and much more. The XUV.e9 will be its coupe version, bringing even more style to the EV SUV segment. Both are definitely worth waiting for! The SUVs are likely to be priced in the range of Rs. 25-30 lakhs (ex-showroom)
6. Tata Harrier EV
Tata is not holding back! The Tata Harrier EV is coming early 2025 with an expected range of 600 km. It’s going to be available in both single and dual motor configurations, meaning there’ll be something for everyone – whether you want maximum efficiency or extra power. It will look similar to its ICE counterpart but get unique elements like closed grille design and new alloys along with unique colour options. Price likely to be around Rs. 24-28 lakhs (ex-showroom)
7. Tata Safari EV
And if that wasn’t enough, Tata is also working on an electric version of the Safari! Set to take on the Mahindra XUV.e8, the Safari EV will likely share a lot with the Harrier EV but with that extra touch of space and comfort that the Safari offers. Expected price is in the range of Rs. 26-30 lakhs (ex-showroom).
8. Kia EV9
Now for something ultra-premium – the Kia EV9. This flagship electric SUV is set to launch in October 2024 and will be packed with luxury features and a WLTP range of over 540 km. Although it’s coming as a CBU, the tech and features it offers will definitely make it stand out in the Indian EV market. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 80-90 lakhs (ex-showroom).
9. Kia Carens EV
Kia’s first locally produced electric vehicle is likely to be based on the Carens. Though there’s no official confirmation yet, expect this electric MPV to be launched next year with a price tag that could shake up the EV segment. Family-friendly, tech-packed and electric – what more could you want? It will be available with a range of over 400 km on single charge. Expected to be priced from Rs. 20 lakhs (ex-showroom).
10. Skoda Enyaq
The Skoda Enyaq, spotted testing in India for over a year, was recently showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024. This flagship electric SUV received a major upgrade last year. Globally, the Enyaq comes in various single and dual-motor options, including a sporty RS variant, but the Indian market is expected to get the top-spec model next year. Expected price is around Rs. 50 lakhs (ex-showroom).
11. Hyundai Inster EV
The Hyundai Inster EV has globally been revealed recently. It is based on the Casper, having a micro SUV form factor. It will be offered in two battery pack options – short range and long range. It has a claimed range of up to 355 km on single charge. We can expect Hyundai to launch the Inster EV by the end of 2025 with an expected price tag of around Rs. 12 lakhs (ex-showroom).
12. Renault Kwid EV
Renault is gearing up to introduce the EV version of the Kwid hatchback. It will get new exterior elements along with updated interiors, offering more features. The electric vehicle was recently spotted testing in India. Renault is using Dacia Spring EV to test the vehicle but of course the production version will carry the Renault branding. It will get two battery packs with a range of up to 220 km. It will compete with the likes of Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3, Tata Punch EV and more.
13. BYD eMAX 7
BYD is preparing to launch the facelifted version of the e6 soon, which is going to be called BYD eMAX 7. It will get new sharper styling details and updated interior to make it look fresh. BYD will be offering a larger battery pack with an expected claimed range of 530 km on full charge. Launch is expected by the end of September 2024 with a price tag of around Rs. 30 lakhs (ex-showroom).
14. Tata Sierra EV
Tata Sierra EV is a much awaited electric SUV from Tata Motors that will come with an iconic nameplate. Inspired by the original Sierra’s design, it will get some modern retro details. The Indian carmaker has showcased the concept multiple times previously and we expect the production version to make its debut by mid-2025. It will offer an expected driving range of 500 km on full charge, based on the new Acti.EV platform. Price is expected to be in the ballpark of Rs. 25-30 lakhs (ex-showroom).
15. Volvo EX30 Recharge
Volvo EX30 is their smallest electric vehicle yet, which has been confirmed for India launch in 2025. The EX30 is available with two battery options – 51 kWh battery using LFP chemistry cells, which offers a claimed range of 344 km. The second option is a 69 kWh battery with NMC cells, promising a range of up to 480 km according to the WLTP cycle. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 50 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India.
