Nissan GT-R R35 was on sale for around 17 years! It was available in India as well
After a remarkable 17 year production run, Nissan has announced the end of the R35 GT-R, scheduled for October 2024. Known for its impressive performance and iconic status, the Godzilla has been a notable presence in the performance car market since its debut in 2007.
The current generation GT-R replaced the R34 Skyline GT-R in 2007. Over its production span, the GT-R received two significant facelifts, multiple special editions and numerous performance enhancements to maintain its competitiveness against newer rivals and evolving market regulations.
Powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine producing 570 HP, the GT-R features a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. This combination has made it a favourite in tuning circles, with some modified versions achieving over 1000 HP. The GT-R was available in India from 2016 to 2022.
As a farewell gesture, Nissan USA is introducing two special edition models: the Skyline Edition and the Takumi Edition. The Skyline Edition is distinguished by its exclusive Bayside Blue exterior and matching blue interiors. On the other hand, the Takumi Edition honours the master craftspeople who hand-assemble each GT-R engine, featuring a Midnight Purple exterior, Mori Green interior and a gold VIN plate with red-etched writing. Both editions are equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes, gold RAYS forged wheels and wider front fenders.
There are no immediate plans for a direct successor to the GT-R. However, Nissan’s Hyper Force electric concept, unveiled in October 2023, hints at the next-generation GT-R, which is expected to feature an all-electric drivetrain. This new iteration is projected to arrive by the end of the decade.
The GT-R’s legacy as an everyday sports car with exceptional tuning potential ensures it will be fondly remembered by enthusiasts and automotive fans alike.
