Ola Electric to launch their first electric motorcycle by 2025-2026
Ola Electric is gearing up to introduce its first electric motorcycle in the first half of the financial year 2026. The company, which currently commands over 30 percent of the electric two-wheeler market, is developing a portfolio of four electric bikes. These new models mark Ola’s ambitious foray into the mass market motorcycle segment.
In a recent filing for its initial public offering, Ola Electric disclosed plans to deliver its motorcycles starting in early FY2026. The company emphasised its intention to broaden its product range, aiming to cater to a diverse consumer base across various types and price points of motorcycles. Ola’s portfolio includes the concept e-bikes Diamondhead, Adventure, Roadster and Cruiser, which were showcased last year.
The new electric motorcycles from Ola are expected to compete with existing products from companies like Revolt and Ultraviolette. Currently, the electric motorcycle segment in India is in its nascent stages, with limited options available, primarily from these new-age firms. This has kept the penetration of electric motorcycles below 1 percent, with a significant presence in the premium segment priced over Rs. 1 lakh.
Ola Electric anticipates that advancements in R&D and technology will boost supply in more popular price segments, leading to increased adoption of electric motorcycles. The company has also patented three electric motorcycle designs and a removable electric battery, indicating a focus on innovation and user convenience.
Ola’s expansion into electric motorcycles comes amid broader industry trends. India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, is also set to launch a range of electric motorcycles in 2025–26. Hero’s lineup will include six models under the Vida brand and four models developed in partnership with Zero Motors. The initial offerings are expected to be premium models, priced between Rs. 4 lakhs and Rs. 5 lakhs.
Currently, Ola Electric competes with established players like Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor and Ather in the electric scooter segment. The company offers three electric scooters: the S1 Pro, S1 Air and S1 X, with the S1 X available in three variants featuring battery capacities from 2kWh to 4kWh.
As the electric vehicle market in India continues to evolve, Ola Electric’s upcoming motorcycle range represents a significant step towards wider EV adoption in the country. With both established manufacturers and new entrants gearing up to expand their electric two-wheeler offerings, the competition in this sector is expected to intensify, benefiting consumers with more choices and potentially better technologies.
