Volkswagen has declared the unveiling date for the production version of the Up! The German automaker has chosen Paris Grand Palais on the Champs-Elysees in France for the unveiling. The Up! is the replacement for the Lupo which was a popular small car in South America. When launched in India, the Volkswagen Up! will compete with the Hyundai i10 and the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. It is expected to be priced in the Rs. 3-5 lakh bracket and will feature engines from the Polo.
The Volkswagen Up! will also share its platforms with its cousins from Skoda and Seat. The Up! platform will spawn the Skoda Youngster and the Seat Arosa, both of which will have the underpinnings of the Up! The Up! platform will also be used to make a sedan and MPV which might also make it into India, competing with the Toyota Etios and the Mahindra Xylo respectively.
