2024 Maruti Swift safety score is 177.8 points out of 197 points in Japan NCAP
2024 Maruti Swift scored 4 safety stars in Japan NCAP crash test. The National Agency for Automotive Safety and Victims’ Aid (NASVA), which oversees JNCAP, has released detailed reports and test footage, showcasing the hatchback’s performance. This achievement is particularly significant as the Swift is set to hit the Indian market in May.
In the JNCAP tests, the Swift scored 177.8 out of a total 197 points, with notable strengths in preventive safety performance. Equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in its top-spec model, including features like adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking, the Swift demonstrated commendable preventive safety capabilities, securing an impressive 88.7 out of 89 points.
However, the Swift faced some challenges in collision tests, scoring 81.1 out of 100 points, with areas of improvement identified, particularly in rear passenger protection. Despite these shortcomings, the Swift performed well in side collision tests and in preventing neck injuries during rear-end collisions.
While the Japan-spec Swift showcased promising safety features, it’s essential to note that results from JNCAP testing may not directly apply to the India-spec model. The India-bound Swift is likely to undergo separate safety assessments, such as Bharat NCAP in the future.
The Swift’s strong showing in JNCAP testing contrasts with its previous safety ratings in India. Past iterations of the Indian-made Swift have received lower safety scores in assessments by organisations like Global NCAP, highlighting the importance of continuous safety improvement in the automotive industry.
With bookings already underway in India, anticipation surrounds the launch of the fourth-generation Swift, which introduces a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine globally. Whether this engine will be featured in the Indian model remains to be confirmed.
Some dealerships have started accepting bookings unofficially ahead of the new generation hatchback’s launch next month in India.
