Suzuki EVX Concept

Maruti Suzuki eVX will be manufactured in Gujarat

Maruti Suzuki has officially confirmed the launch of its highly anticipated electric vehicle, the eVX, by the end of the next financial year (FY2024-2025). This announcement comes on the heels of the company’s commitment to embrace sustainable mobility.

The forthcoming eVX will be manufactured at Maruti’s facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat. This facility, operated by Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki India, has been a key player in the production of popular models like the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, and Fronx.

Rahul Bharti, Executive Director (Corporate Affairs) at Maruti Suzuki, highlighted, “Our first EV, an SUV, will be launched in the next financial year. At present, the SMG facility at Hansalpur has three plants – A, B, and C. Now, to manufacture the EV, a new production line will be added.”

The Maruti eVX is expected to be equipped with two battery options. The electric SUV is anticipated to boast a range of approximately 550 km, setting a new standard for electric vehicles in the Indian market. The vehicle will feature a 60 kWh battery.

As Maruti’s first foray into the electric vehicle segment, the eVX is generating significant buzz. The SUV is designed to cater to both the Indian and international markets, with plans for exports to various countries. The launch is scheduled for FY2025, with the price announcement expected in early 2025.

Interestingly, the eVX will have a Toyota sibling, following a collaboration between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. Both models will be built on Toyota’s 27PL skateboard platform, ensuring a solid foundation for future mass-market electric vehicles. The Toyota counterpart, recently previewed as the Toyota Urban SUV concept, is expected to join the market at a later date.

Maruti Suzuki has already commenced road testing of the eVX in India, with several spy shots revealing exterior and interior details of the production-spec model. Once launched, it will compete with the upcoming Hyundai Creta electric.
