2024 Mercedes E-Class revealed in long wheelbase avatar
2024 Mercedes E-Class made its debut a few months back with an all-new styling inside out resembling the flagship S-Class from some angles. Now, the German luxury carmaker has revealed the long wheelbase version for the Chinese market which further emphasises its resemblance with the S, thanks to the longer wheelbase.
Mercedes-Benz has already planned to launch the new generation E-Class in India in its LWB avatar just like the previous generation (W213). It will look more or less the same like the Chinese spec shown here in these official pictures. However, it will take some time to enter the Indian shores since the German carmaker is planning to launch it by the end of next year (2024).
In terms of styling, it looks the same from the front and rear profile but when you look it from the side, you will notice it is significantly lengthier than the standard model. The Mercedes E-Class L is 5092 mm long, which is 143 mm more than the regular E-Class. It has a wheelbase of 3094 mm, which is even longer than the outgoing LWB model sold in India currently.
The interior layout is the same including the dashboard, new screens, steering wheel, seats, etc. However, the rear passenger seats and the legroom on offer looks humongous in these pictures. It will cannibalise a lot with the sales of the S-Class in India as some buyers only prioritise rear seat space over fancy features and premium materials.
Of course, the level of comfort offered in S-Class with the difference in the overall dynamics and tuning of the suspension is a different topic of discussion. However, the E-Class L will be available with air suspension and rear wheel steering to boost he comfort and convenience in the longer variant.
Mercedes-Benz India is expected to offer the same petrol and diesel engine options with the new generation E-Class. There will be no short wheelbase variant on offer. Interestingly, BMW is also considering to launch the new generation 5-Series in India in a long wheelbase variant for the first time. The fight in the luxury sedan segment is going to get fierce in the near future.
