Jeep Compass petrol not on sale anymore, no replacement in the future

Jeep India has officially discontinued the Compass petrol for good. There is no replacement planned for the petrol engine option. It will continue to be on sale only with the diesel engine option.

The American carmaker has released an official statement on this matter – “The Premium SUV segment continues to enjoy a strong demand for diesel powertrain. Jeep India will continue to invest and develop its efficient state-of-the-art 2.0 L MultiJet Turbo Diesel powertrains offering superior torque, lower emissions and an impressive fuel efficiency. Jeep India is committed to the market and has significant product plans for the future. We will continue to explore all possible engine and fuel options in line with the evolving market preferences to offer what is most relevant to our consumers.”

This is quite a strange move from the Stellantis group for the Indian car market. Majority of the carmakers are discontinuing diesel powertrain options across their lineup and here Jeep India is phasing out petrol engine option.

Considering the fact that the Compass is the company’s bread and butter product, the carmaker should have put more efforts to meet the new emission norms. They could’ve also come up with a new petrol engine option.

The group has globally discontinued the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine produced 163 PS and 250 Nm of torque. The petrol variants contributed to around 50 percent of Compass sales.

The SUV is now only available with the 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 172 PS and 350 Nm of torque. It is available with 6-speed manual transmission and 9-speed automatic transmission options.

Now until the new generation launches around 2026, we won’t be able to see a Jeep Compass with a petrol engine option in the Indian market. They have also discontinued the Jeep Compass Trailhawk.
