Maruti Jimny launch scheduled for May 2023, bookings open
Maruti Jimny gathered a lot of attention at the 2023 Auto Expo ahead of its launch in May 2023. The much awaited SUV made its world premiere in its 5-door avatar at the Expo.
Maruti opened the bookings for the car for Rs. 11,000/- initially. Looking at the crazy amount of bookings, which has crossed 9000 as of now, they have increased the booking amount to Rs. 25,000/-! It is the highest booking amount for any Maruti car yet.
The Jimny will be available in two variants – Zeta and Alpha. It will be offered in 6 colour options – yellow, red, grey, white, bluish black and Nexa blue.
In terms of styling, it looks the same as the 3-door version but has grown longer to accommodate the 5-door layout. It is 3985 mm long including spare tyre, 1645 mm wide and 1720 mm tall. The wheelbase is 2590 mm long and the ground clearance is 210 mm.
It comes with 195/80 section tyres and 15-inch wheels. Gets front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. It has got a fuel tank capacity of 40 litres. The kerb weight is 1210 kg for the range topping AT trim.
The interior looks utilitarian and at the same time it has a retro appeal. There is a familiar looking 3-spoke steering wheel with audio controls, cruise control buttons and other switches. The instrument cluster behind gets a twin pod look which might remind you of the Gypsy. It gets analogue metres and an MID screen.
There is a 9-inch touchscreen which we have seen in other Maruti cars recently that gets SmartPlay Pro+ interface. It is equipped with 4-speaker Arkamys surround sound system. Comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity.
It is strictly a 4-seater car since it isn’t too wide and Maruti has also mentioned this officially in the brochure that the seating capacity is 4. Safety features include 6 airbags, Brake Limited Slip Differential, ESP with hill hold assist, Hill descent control, rear-view camera, ABS and EBD.
The Jimny gets a K15B engine, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 105 PS at 6000 RPM and 134.2 Nm at 4000 RPM. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and 4-speed automatic transmission option. Maruti is offering AllGrip Pro 4WD system as standard. It comes with low range transfer gear as well.
