BMW i4 eDrive35 will retail at a tempting price tag of $51,400 (Rs. 40.41 lakhs) in the US, expect such a price here as well
BMW has unveiled a new base variant of its popular i4 electric limousine called ‘eDrive35’. It will sit below the regular eDrive40 variant that’s also sold in India. Although the company hasn’t revealed a launch timeline for our country, it might hit our shores soon.
BMW recently shook the electric luxury segment in India by launching the i4 eDrive40 for an aggressive price tag of Rs. 69.9 lakhs (ex-showroom). This unexpected price tag made the Kia EV6 a little overpriced as the snob value associated with BMW is much more than Kia.
At a time when the luxury segment customers were gaga over the i4, Volvo recently dropped a bomb by launching its XC40 Recharge EV for an absolute shocker price tag of Rs. 55.9 lakhs (ex-showroom) undercutting the Kia EV6 itself.
While BMW has great snob value, Volvo is known across the world for making super safe cars. So, the XC40 Recharge turned to be a steal deal that it got sold out for this year within hours of launch.
Now, we feel that the new eDrive35 would be BMW’s answer to the XC40 Recharge’s low price tag.
The i4 eDrive 35 is powered by a lone motor driving the rear wheels and its supplied by a 70.2 kWh battery pack. The motor churns out 281 HP and 400 Nm resulting in an estimated 0-96 km/hr time of 5.8 seconds.
The current eDrive40, on the other hand, gets a bigger 83.9 kWh battery pack powering, again, the lone rear wheel motor that exerts a much higher 340 HP and 430 Nm helping the i4 accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 5.7 seconds.
When fitted with the standard 18-inch aero wheels, the all-new i4 eDrive35 is expected to deliver an EPA range of about 418 km. Utilising DC fast charging, the batteries can be charged at a rate of up to 180 kW with 10 to 80 percent achieved in 32 minutes.
Inside, drivers are greeted by the dramatic BMW curved display, powered by BMW operating system 8. The display unites a 12.3-inch information display with a 14.9-inch control display behind a single, seamless glass surface angled towards the driver.
Standard and optional features and equipment are unchanged from that available on the eDrive40 variant and the eDrive35 will benefit from the full range of available connected drive digital services and over-the-air updates.
In the US, the all new BMW i4 eDrive35 will retail at a tempting price tag of $51,400 (Rs. 40.41 lakhs). Expect such a breakthrough price tag in India as well.
