Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder launch will happen on 16th August, will offer strong hybrid and AWD options for the first time
Toyota will launch the much-awaited Urban Cruiser Hyryder midsize SUV on 16th August. Developed along with its cousin from Maruti Suzuki, Grand Vitara, the all-new Toyota will take the fight head-on against Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The SUV comes with 7 monotone and 4 dual-tone colours. The monotone ones are Cave Black, Sportin Red, Speedy Blue, Enticing Silver, Cafe White, Gaming Grey, and Midnight Black. The dual-tone ones are Black roof with Cafe White, Sportin Red, Enticing Silver, and Speedy Blue.
The car sports a free-standing infotainment system with Smart Play Cast. The features include Toyota iConnect connected car tech, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 360 degree camera, average fuel economy, range, clock, custom wallpapers, etc.
The iConnect in itself offers more than 55 features including smartwatch connectivity, advanced voice control, remote vehicle ignition start/stop, remote AC control, find my car, stolen vehicle tracking, remote mobilizer, vehicle health, etc.
The new Toyota further gets a large panoramic sunroof, ambient lights, wireless charging, head-up display, ventilated leather seats, hill hold and hill desent control, 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, TPMS, cruise control, front seat PT/FL, vehicle stability control, reclining rear seats, rear AC vents with USB charging ports, and all-wheel disc brakes.
Built on the international Suzuki Vitara’s Global C Platform, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder shares its engines and powertrains with the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
There are 2 engines on offer – the Maruti Suzuki-sourced 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild hybrid tech called Neo Drive and Toyota’s 1.5-litre TNGA engine featuring Toyota Hybrid System (THS) and e-drive transmission.
The TNGA engine exerts 91 HP and 122 Nm while the motor puts out 79 HP and 141 Nm. The engine and motor’s combined output is 114 HP. There’s a pure EV mode where the car can be forced to run on electric power alone.
In the Neo Drive, the K series engine puts out the same 101 HP and 135 Nm as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Brezza and comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed autobox. It also gets a first-in-the-segment all-wheel-drive system.
