Maruti Ignis Pros & Cons
Maruti Suzuki Ignis posts impressive growth

June 2022 hatchback sales are nearly the same as May – S-Presso unusually posts dismissal numbers

In June, 2022, hatchback sales, many cars posted impressive growth like May but there were also some unusual developments. In the A-segment, Maruti Suzuki Alto lead the chart followed by Renault Kwid. The Alto sold over 14,000 units with 10 percent growth.

Surprisingly, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso has posted dismissal numbers. It has sold just 652 units with a massive YoY de-growth of 87 percent. The low sales can be attributed to the re-entry of the Alto K10. Maruti Suzuki might have started the production of the K10.

In the B segment, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R came first selling 19,190 units. The Wagon R continues to be the country’s highest selling car. Maruti Suzuki Swift followed the Wagon R recording 16,213 units. But, both the Marutis couldn’t replicate their pandemic performance.

At number 3, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios distantly followed the Marutis selling over 9000 units. Maruti Suzuki Celerio continues to climb up the chart coming 4th this time. It’s just marginally behind the i10. In the next few months, it has the possibility of displacing the Hyundai.

The last 3 places were taken by Tata Tiago, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, and Hyundai Santro. Ignis has posted an impressive YoY growth of 38 percent. The 7 units of the Santro were probably the last set of cars sold after the discontinuation.

Coming to the C segment, Hyundai i20 has made great inroads. It has sold a good 7921 units with a YoY growth of 25 percent. Maruti Suzuki Baleno came first with more than 16,000 units sold.

Tata Altroz took the third spot with 5366 units up its sleeves. But, the Tata has posted a 15 percent de-growth when compared to last year. The Altroz was followed by Toyota Glanza which has also suffered a de-growth.

Honda Jazz took the last spot as usual and it’s quite a worrying sign. The spacious hatchback continues to post dismissal performance and might be pulled if this trend continues. Though it has posted growth when compared to last year, the sales no way justify the segment standards.
