Tata Nexon XZ and XZA variants discontinued, the move might be to free up space for the upcoming CNG variants
Tata Motors has silently discontinued the XZ and XZA variants of the country’s best-selling SUV, Nexon. These variants were earlier sandwiched between the XM (S) and XZ+ variants in both the petrol and diesel avatars.
If you are planning to purchase the SUV, you can now choose from the available trims namely XE, XM, XM(S), and XZ+. In addition, there are a couple of special editions as well namely Dark and Kaziranga.
The now discontinued XZ variant was Rs. 50,000/- costlier than the XM (S) variant while the top-end XZ+ was expensive than the XZ by Rs. 60,000/-. So, now, there’s a gap of more than Rs. 1 lakh in between for Tata to play around in the future launching new variants.
The lower XM (S) has standard features namely electric sunroof, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and steering-mounted audio controls.
The top-end XZ+ variant, on the other hand, gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a height-adjustable driver seat, 16-inch diamond-cut alloys, rear aircon vents, Harman sound system, and a cooled glovebox.
The compact SUV comes powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 1.5-litre diesel engine mated either to a 6-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. It rivals the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, etc.
Tata is currently testing the CNG kit on the Nexon and might launch new CNG variants soon. With soaring fuel prices, people are already on the lookout for alternate fuels. Currently, there are very few cars with the option of CNG.
