Nissan might have removed the standard features from Magnite owing to global chip shortage
Nissan has silently removed a set of standard features from its bread and butter Magnite compact SUV. The reason for the same could be the ongoing global chip shortage which continues to haunt manufacturers of all kind.
If there’s 1 product that’s upholding the fortunes of the ailing Japanese maker, Nissan, in India, it’s none other the VFM Magnite compact SUV. Launched just over an year and a half back, the compact SUV continues its momentum in sales.
All this while, the SUV came with standard LED Bi projector headlamps and LED DRLs on the top-end XV Premium variant. The second top-end XV variant came with standard LED DRLs. But, now, the LED projectors don’t come as standard fitment on the XV Premium.
Similarly, LED DRLs don’t come as standard fitment on the XV. But, both can be had an option. Earlier, except the base XE, all other variants had optional CVT automatic transmission.
But, now, the autobox has been been reserved only for the top 2 – XV and XV Premium variants. Also, the turbo petrol engine has removed from the XV Executive variant.
Despite all these downgrades, the Magnite now comes with a shark-fin antenna as a standard fitment on the top 2 variants. The compact SUV didn’t have this feature all this while.
Over the last 1-and-a-half years, the Magnite has seen a price increment up to Rs. 80,000-90,000/- on select variants over its introductory price during launch.
Under the hood, the Magnite comes with the option of 2 petrol engines – a 1-litre, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated unit producing 72 HP and the same 1-liter engine in a turbo avatar that churns out 100 HP and 160 Nm.
In terms of gearbox options, both engines come mated either to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The turbo-petrol additionally gets the option of a CVT autobox with a slight reduction in overall torque numbers.
The compact SUV competes against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Renault Kiger, and Kia Sonet.
