These latest pictures of the 2023 Mahindra Scorpio could be the same as that of the end product
It was only on Friday that we released the pictures of the 2023 Mahindra Scorpio in full claiming them to be almost resembling the end product. Now, more pictures have emerged online and, going by their looks, they might be the exact end product which will be launched soon.
The upcoming Scorpio, as per Mahindra, is set to capture the D-segment. The ‘Big Daddy of SUVs’ is expected to be launched in June when the Scorpio celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Designed by Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai and engineered at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) near Chennai, the new Scorpio is codenamed Z101.
It will reportedly come powered by a 2-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine with both manual and automatic transmission options. The diesel engine, might get 2 states of tune with the lowered powered 1 finding its place on the base variants.
The petrol engine might be the mStallion 150 TGDi unit that puts out 150 HP at 5000 RPM and 300 Nm between 1250-3000 RPM.
The diesel engine, however, might be the tried and tested mHawk 130 that exerts 130 HP at 3750 RPM and 300 Nm between 1600-2800 RPM. The mHawk is expected to put out the XUV 700’s numbers for the top-end models.
The SUV will be available in white, glossy brown, and dark green shades among other colours. It gets Scorpio’s signature vertical slats finished in chrome. There’s also a chrome strip on top of the slats connecting the 2 headlights
At the bottom, there’s a honeycomb grille covering the trapezoidal opening on the body panel. It ends in the matte black bumper that houses the number plate. The front skid plates are finished on brushed silver.
The headlights are complete LED units this time and, on each side, there are 2 segments of lights for a sporty look. Additionally, the LED fog lamps with the LED drl surrounds render an aggressive look at the front.
The upcoming Scorpio gets chrome inserts on the side window line while the roof rails are finished in white. The side skid plates are, again, finished in brushed silver.
The SUV also gets large plastic matte black side cladding throughout its perimeter, a typical Scorpio trait. The SUV sports muscle bulges throughout the sides. The V-shaped alloy wheels look like they are 17-inchers. They could be diamond-cut units.
At the rear, the reversing lights and the reflectors are embedded on the bumper rather than on the D-pillar along with the other lights. The bumper gets a chrome running board. The vertically stacked tail lights are retained from the existing Scorpio.
They look sleeker now and have a different design. They are likely to be LED units. The rear could have been done better though as the bulges around the number plate look like an afterthought. The tail gate itself doesn’t gel well with the overall stance of the SUV.
When launched, the 2023 Scorpio will compete against the likes of the D-segment SUVs. Expect a price tag somewhere between Rs. 12 to 20 lakhs.
