Mahindra’s new promo of the upcoming 2023 Mahindra Scorpio reveals new exterior details
Ahead of the launch of the 2023 Scorpio, Mahindra has released a new promo on its social media handles revealing certain exterior bits of the uncamouflaged SUV. Calling it the the big daddy of SUVs, Mahindra reiterated its aim to capture the D-segment currently dominated by Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
From the video, it’s evident that the new Scorpio, codenamed Z101, will get a glossy brown and dark green paint job. At the front, the prominent grille houses Mahindra’s new logo.
It gets Scorpio’s signature vertical slats finished in chrome. At the bottom, there is a honeycomb grille ending in the bumper that houses the number plate. The LED fog lamps with the LED drl surrounds render an aggressive look at the front.
The SUV gets chrome inserts on the side window line while the roof rails are finished in white. The bottom skid plates are finished in brushed silver. The SUV also gets large plastic matte black side cladding throughout its perimeter, a typical Scorpio trait.
At the rear, the reversing lights and the reflectors are embedded on the bumper rather than on the D-pillar. As said in the video, the SUV, indeed, looks big and should definitively provide amazing road presence.
Designed by Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai and engineered at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) near Chennai, the new Scorpio will be launched soon.
Coming June, Mahindra will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the bread and butter Scorpio, and, by then, the launch should have been completed and deliveries begun.
The next-generation Scorpio is expected to carry forward the success of the recently launched Thar and XUV 700. Sharing almost nothing with the ongoing model, the new Scorpio’s chassis too is borrowed from the new Thar and not from the existing Scorpio.
The SUV is expected to borrow the 2.2-litre diesel and 2-litre petrol engines from the Thar although with a higher state of tune. It will come with both manual and automatic options with an all-wheel drive system as well.
Coming to the interiors, the upcoming Scorpio gets a new dual-tone brown and walnut colour upholstery with thick cushioning and side bolsters for the 4 captain seats. The interior is finished in the usual beige and black combo.
The infotainment system gets the biggest updates. It’s probably a 10-inch unit and has been tucked neatly along with the vertically stacked centre AC vents.
When launched, the Scorpio will compete against the likes of the D-segment SUVs. Expect a price tag somewhere between Rs. 12 to 20 lakhs.
