Jaguar Land Rover has officially opened its first assembly plant in India. The plant, located in Pune will assemble the Land Rover Freelander 2 from CKD units imported from JLR’s Halewood manufacturing plant in Liverpool, UK. The Land Rover Freelander is available in two variants – TD4 SE Automatic and SD4 SE Automatic. Prices start at Rs. 33.89 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and the company’s engineers and managers have moved to India from the UK. JLR will also use the plant to export to other countries and Tata Motors will use technology from JLR on it own vehicles. The company will open 14 more dealers in 12 major cities in the near future.
