Tata Altroz EV spied testing ahead of Tata’s new EV launch this week
Ahead of its new EV launch slated for 29th April, Tata is on an aggressive testing spree of its Altroz EV which has now been spied again. This brings us to the question: Is this the car slated for launch coming Friday? Let’s take a look at the possibility.
For starters, the Altroz EV was first showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and later at the 2020 Auto Expo in New Delhi. It is expected to be powered by Tata’s tried and tested electric powertrain, the Ziptron, that powers the existing Nexon EV and Tigor EV.
Exerting 129 PS and 245 Nm, powertrain’s claimed range is in the ballpark of 300 km on a single charge with real-world figures easily above 200 km. But reports say that the Ziptron’s range on the Altroz EV could be as high as 500 km owing to the car’s ALFA architecture that also includes an additional battery pack.
Coming to the spied car, not many changes could be seen on the exterior with the overall silhouette remaining similar to the IC variant. Even the tail lights looks similar. But there might be some styling revisions underneath the camouflaged body.
While Altroz EV has all possibilities of becoming headlines on 29th April, Tata is also vigorously testing another car, the long-range version of its existing Nexon EV that reportedly features 40 kWh battery pack with a range above 400 km and real-work figures easily above 300 km. With such a range, it will be easy to cover a day’s usual highway drive of 600 km with the normal lunch (cum charging) break in between.
As both the cars are being vigorously tested, it’s mostly likely that both the cars might get launched on 29th April.
Tata is also working on another EV named Sliq but not much details are known as of now. These 3 EVs aside, just around a couple of weeks ago, Tata showcased its Curvv concept that will become the brand’s next midsize SUV coupe.
Unlike Tata’s models so far, the Curvv will get a electric powertrain first followed by IC engines. The 5-seater SUV will compete with the premium compact SUVs including Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq.
