With the unveil of the 2022 7 series, BMW has left no stone unturned to offer the car with every kind of powertrain possible
You name a powertrain, the 2022 BMW 7 series has it and that’s the kind of options the brand has promised with the long-wheelbase luxury saloon’s unveil today. With global launch planned from November, the new 7 Series will include both the i and M models with a choice of IC engines, plug-in hybrid systems, and all-electric drive (for the first time).
The star of the show is the all-electric i7 M70 xDrive which will sport an all-electric drive system with 2 motors. The combined output is in excess of 600 HP and 1000 Nm.
Next up is the hybrid M760e xDrive that puts out 571 HP and 800 Nm with its electric motor providing extra 40 HP boost when needed. A diesel variant with 48 volt mild-hybrid technology will be offered along with a slew of petrol options.
On the outside, the 7 Series sports a larger-than-before grille that comes with BMW’s ‘Iconic Lighting’ treatment, which was first brought to the facelifted 8 Series. The familiar long-bonnet features smooth surfaces throughout as only 2 distinct lines are evident along the flanks.
The door handles now sport an internal touchpad an electronic mechanism for operation. At the rear, the horizontal LED tail-lights take up the prominent position.
On the inside, the 7 Series offers BMW’s updated iDrive with ‘BMW Operating System 8’. A fully-digital curved display and an interaction offer personal assistant support.
The latest version of BMW’ head-up display and augmented view function are available for the first time on the information display behind the steering wheel.
At the rear, BMW offers a 31.3-inch panoramic display theatre screen with 8K support. It extends downwards from the roof and transforms the second row of seats into an entertainment zone.
The driver and front passenger can also use YouTube video-on-demand streaming on the control display. A 5G-compatible aerial system takes care of high-speed connectivity says the brand.
