Both the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger scored 4 stars for adult occupant protection in the Global NCAP test
The Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger are literal non-identical twins and thus, their Global NCAP results are identical in terms of star count. But, there are differences in the details. Let’s find out.
Weighing 1167 kg and fitted with 2 airbags, seat belt reminder and ABS as standard, the Nissan Magnite, Global NCAP found, scored 4 stars or 11.85 out of 17 possible points.
It offered good protection to the head and neck of front passengers, but marginal protection to their knees and the driver’s chest (passenger’s chest protection was good).
But, it only scored 2 starts in the child occupant protection assessment as it made 24.88 out of 49 points. The 3-year-old dummy’s protection was nothing to write home about, but the 18-month-old dummy had good protection to the head and poor protection to the chest.
The Nissan Magnite, Global NCAP noted does not come with 3-point seat belts for all occupants, and it has no ISOFIX anchorages either. But, the bodyshell was stable and so was the footwell area.
Renault Kiger –
The Renault Kiger that was tested by Global NCAP had 2 airbags, seat belt reminder, ABS and weighed 1142 kg. It did well to score 4 stars for adult occupant protection (12.34 of 17 points).
Both front passengers had good protection to the head and neck during the 64 km/hr frontal impact test. The knees of the passengers had marginal protection as they could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard.
Featuring no ISOFIX anchorages or a 3-point seat belt for the rear centre passenger, the Kiger could only score 2 stars for child occupant protection (21.05 out of 49 points).
Like the Magnite, the Kiger did not offer enough protection to the 3-year-old child, but the 1.5-year-old child dummy had good protection to head and weak protection to the chest.
Interestingly, Global NCAP found that Renault-branded compact SUV’s bodyshell integrity after the crash was unstable and not capable of withstanding further loadings. But, its footwell area was rated as stable.
