The Global NCAP rating of the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio looks set to be promising
Mahindra has been working on the new generation Scorpio for quite a while now. The SUV, which will be completely modernised for 2022, is expected to debut by the middle of this year.
Since the car has been under development for a long time, details about it get leaked at irregular intervals. For example, by now, petrol heads fairly know the powertrain choices customers of the new Scorpio will get from the get-go.
Recent developments, however, suggest that the 2022 Scorpio will be able to achieve at least 4 stars (out of 5) when subjected to safety tests by Global NCAP.
This is despite the fact that (and this remains unverified) the new car being lighter than its predecessor. Expect the 2022 model to weigh anywhere between 100 and 150 kg less than the current one.
Apart from the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio Global NCAP safety rating, a few other details about the car have also come to light. For starters, the SUV will have a comparatively lighter steering while still being hydraulically assisted.
What’s more, the car will have an updated version of the Thar’s 4-wheel drive system with shift-on-the-fly feature and specific modes (operated through a rotary knob) to tackle the rough stuff.
This system will then be adopted in the compact off-roader the automaker makes, more likely because it will be tuned to perform well on the tarmac as well, but only after the new Scorpio’s market launch takes place.
Inside, the new Scorpio might come with either burgundy or tan-coloured seat upholstery and it might come with a 3D Sony sound system used already in the XUV700.
The 3-row SUV will also come with a digital instrument cluster, 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, electric sunroof, 2-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, among other features.
On the outside, the car will come with LED headlights and tail lamps, and its engine options will include a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre turbodiesel, both of which will be teamed to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
As mentioned earlier, expect the SUV to be unveiled by July this year, while its price announcement might take place a month later. The 2022 Scorpio is rumoured to come with a base sticker price of Rs. 12.99 lakhs (ex-showroom).
