Production of the 2022 Maruti Baleno is taking place at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat facility
Maruti Suzuki has recently commenced mass production of the 2022 Baleno premium hatchback in India ahead of its market launch that will take place next month.
The first unit of the thoroughly revised Baleno rolled out from the production line on 24th January. It has a completely new front end, with the headlights, radiator grille and bumper being different.
Along the sides, the 2022 Baleno’s mildly restyled fenders can be seen, while at the back, the premium hatchback’s boot lid is new and so are the tail lamps and the bumper.
Like the exterior, the car’s interior has gone through a major revamp. The Baleno will now feature a new dashboard that will have different trim and air vents. The infotainment screen and central air vents have been borrowed from the new generation S-Cross that was unveiled late last year.
The ‘free-standing’ touchscreen should be at least 8 inches in size, while the updated infotainment system will also support wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Other features the car is expected to come with include a new multifunctional steering wheel, automatic climate control, head up display, cruise control, up to 6 airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
Since the 2022 Maruti Baleno production has commenced a month before the model’s launch, the car is likely to continue using the current 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine in standard and mild-hybrid form.
The 5-speed manual and CVT options will also remain as is and soon enough, there will also be a CNG variant on offer, while a strong hybrid might not arrive until the new generation model is rolled out.
At present, the Baleno costs between Rs. 6.14 lakhs and Rs. 9.66 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 2022 model should cost more and will continue to primarily rival the Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20.
