The Bajaj Twinner trademark could be for a new model set to use KTM’s 490cc motor
Bajaj Auto has received the trademark for the title ‘Twinner’ in India. The maker of Pulsar motorcycles had filed the application for the same in May 2020.
Now, twinner simply means “one that bears twins” and we believe the moniker could be used for an upcoming 2-cylinder, mid-capacity motorcycle from Bajaj.
It is well-known that Bajaj has been working with its long-standing partner KTM to develop a range of twin-cylinder motorcycles with an engine capacity of around 490cc.
The first 490 model from the Austrian brand will make global debut this year and it will carry the Duke moniker. The KTM 490 Adventure will follow suit, while RC 490 is also in the making and so are the enduro and a supermoto bikes making use of the same engine.
Bajaj will be manufacturing these motorcycles in India and like it has done in the past, the Dominar maker should introduce mid-capacity models using KTM’s new 490cc engine.
Thus, the Bajaj Twinner trademark could well be used for a motorcycle making around 50 BHP. Of course, the Indian firm will price what will effectively be its new flagship, if at all it arrives, more aggressively than KTM.
One can only speculate so much for now and Bajaj’s partnership with Triumph to produce mid-capacity bikes which will bear fruit in fiscal year 2023, cannot be ignored either.
