Suzuki has completed the reveal of the 2022 S-Cross overseas

The official reveal of the all-new 2022 Suzuki S-Cross has taken place overseas and it looks markedly different from its predecessor still on sale in India.

Based on an updated version of Suzuki’s Global C platform, the third-generation S-Cross is 4300 mm long, 1785 mm wide, 1585 mm tall and it has a wheelbase of 2600 mm. Yup, these are the same dimensions as the previous model.

However, to look at, the cars are very different. Unlike the previous S-Cross, which has more crossover traits, staying true to its name, the new model looks more like an SUV of this age, albeit a compact-sized one.

Up front, there is a bigger radiator grille, with a solid chrome bar, flanked by sleek LED headlamps. While the bonnet is a lot more flatter, the bumper on the other hand is more aggressive and features enough cladding too.

Along the sides the 2022 S-Cross is completely different. The wheel arches are squarish, the haunches much more prominent, thus making the car look wider than it actually is.

The car rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and at the back the compact SUV looks a lot more aggressive thanks to the protruding clear lens, wraparound and split tail lights, roof spoiler, boot lid with lots of creases and a deep bumper.

Inside, the new S-Cross comes with an updated cabin. However, the steering wheel and the general layout of the dashboard, barring the touchscreen and central air vents, and the switchgear do look very similar to what’s present in the outgoing model.

Looks like 5 adults can sit inside with a bit of a squeeze

The new 9-inch touchscreen has been placed along the same plane as the semi-digital instrument cluster, and the setup looks the same as the infotainment screen of the soon-to-be launched Baleno facelift and the second-generation Vitara Brezza.

In terms of features, top variants of the compact SUV will come equipped with LED headlights, 2-zone climate control, heated front seats, panoramic sunroof, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, 360-degree camera, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

Power comes from a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol motor that pushes out 127 HP and 235 Nm of torque. The engine is teamed to either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission and features 48 V mild-hybrid assistance.

The car can do the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 9.5 seconds. All-wheel drive will be offered in Europe in the top-spec model, but it will do the same dash in only 10.2 seconds.

One might be correct to not expect the 2022 Suzuki S-Cross reveal to happen in India under the Maruti banner, since the carmaker and its Japanese partner Toyota are jointly developing a circa 4.3-metre SUV specifically to be sold here.

However, for the time being we’ll keep our fingers crossed as European customers get to enjoy the new model.
