The 2023 Hyundai Verna was spied in South Korea
The new generation, model year 2023 (MY23) Hyundai Verna has been spied in the carmaker’s home country recently. To be globally unveiled sometime next year, the C-segment sedan looks to have grown in size this time around.
The next-generation Verna (or Accent as it is known elsewhere) will adopt Hyundai’s latest design language that has already been applied to the new generation i20 premium hatchback.
Although Hyundai has covered the car rather well, one can see that the sedan will come with a long and low bonnet, with low-set headlights that should connect with the radiator grille.
The car also has vertically placed fog lights, sleek ORVMs and a window area very similar to the current Verna’s side greenhouse. Like the front fascia, the rear profile of the recently spied 2023 Hyundai Verna is very similar to the seventh-generation Elantra that is sold overseas.
The sixth-generation Verna has a fastback-style rear end and like the D-segment sedan from the Korean firm, has split tail lamps by the look of things. Due to the disguise, it is not clear if the boot lid will also house a full-width light bar.
Like the exterior, the interior of the 2023 Verna should be overhauled too. Expect to see a larger touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster, new switchgear, features and possibly better quality materials inside.
Not much is known about the powertrains the C-segment sedan will come with. But, it is likely that the current 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines will be carried forward.
The engines are expected to be equipped with mild-hybrid tech to boost their efficiency and the current manual and automatic gearbox options should be used in the new model too.
Expect the car to be launched in India in 2023 and rival the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the upcoming Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus.
