In October 2021, hatchback sales went down by a huge margin

Maruti Alto continues to top the entry-level hatchback sales chart, after all, it was the best-selling car in October 2021 by registering sales of 17,389 units.
The S-Presso from Maruti came second as it found 4442 new homes last month, followed by the Renault Kwid with 2723 unit sales.
In the last place of the small car list sits the Datsun redi-GO, 281 units of which were sold in October. In all, the cars in the segment registered sales of 24,835 units, which is a year-on-year (YoY) degrowth of 28 percent.

The battle between the Maruti Wagon R and Swift continues to, erm, continue and it was once again the tallboy which came on top with 12,335 unit sales, as opposed to the Swift’s 9180 units.
A new entrant to the list, which now has quite a few entry-level “crossovers” like the Maruti Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 NXT, is the Tata Punch which registered sales of 8453 units last month.
Fourth place in the October 2021 hatchback sales chart is occupied by the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS with 6042 unit sales.
The Tata Tiago (4040 units), Hyundai Santro (2877 units), Maruti Celerio (1999 units) and Ignis (1526 units) followed suit. The rest did not do well.
In all, the cars in this segment registered sales of 46,466 units, which is a YoY sales degrowth of 41 percent.

Finally, leading the sales chart in the premium hatchback segment for October 2021 is the Maruti Baleno (15,573 units), followed by the Tata Altroz (5128 units) and the new generation Hyundai i20 (4414 units).
During the same period, Toyota sold 2202 units of the Glanza, while 760 units of the Honda Jazz and 319 units of the Volkswagen Polo also found new homes.
In total, the premium hatchbacks registered sales of 28,396 units with a 33 percent drop in sales volume when compared to the same period a year before.
