Mahindra might drop the current 110 PS turbo petrol motor of the XUV300 in favour of the more potent mill
Mahindra is likely to offer the XUV300 with a 130 PS 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine option, as the carmaker has received the type approval certificate for the same recently.
According to the government document, the more powerful turbo petrol engine, the current 1.2-litre turbo petrol makes 110 PS, will be offered in all of the variants – W4, W6, W8 and W8 (O) – the compact SUV is offered in.
Those with good memory would realise that this small mStallion engine was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and at the time, it was believed to be reserved for use only in the expected Sportz variant of the vehicle.
The Sportz variant, which had body decals, a dark interior and red accents both on the outside and inside, is yet to see the light of day.
As mentioned above, the 1.2-litre mStallion turbo petrol motor is capable of producing 129 BHP, while its peak torque output is 230 Nm, 30 Nm more than what the current turbo-petrol motor makes.
Initially, it is set to come paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, according to the type approval documents, and should later get the AMT option as well.
It is not known if the current 110 PS 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine will continue to be offered once the more powerful unit is introduced. But, the new turbo petrol variants should cost more than the current petrol model.
