Pre-orders for the Ultraviolet F77 will begin this year, months before the EV’s launch

Ultraviolette Automotive has announced that it will launch the F77 electric motorcycle in March 2022. Before its launch, production of the F77 will begin earlier in 2022, while pre-orders are set to begin some time this year.

The TVS-backed electric motorcycle maker will set up a manufacturing facility spread over 70,000 square feet near Electronic City in Bengaluru.

In its first year, the plant will be able to produce 15,000 electric motorcycles and Ultraviolette says the facility’s capacity will be increased to 1.20 lakh units in time.

According to Founder and CEO of Ultraviolette Automotive, Narayan Subramaniam, over 90 percent of the F77’s components, including the battery pack, will be locally-sourced and manufactured.

The company’s founder and CTO, Niraj Rajmohan adds that its manufacturing practices will include using renewable energy. He also said the EV maker will be recycling e-waste as well.

Upon launch, Ultraviolette F77, which is likely to cost around Rs. 3 lakhs (ex-showroom), will be available in 3 variants. It will have 3 battery packs as well.

A 25 kW (33.5 BHP) electric motor putting out 90 Nm of torque will power the electric bike that can hit a top speed just shy of 150 km/hr.

It will be able to travel to up to 150 km on a single charge. The quoted charging time is 5 hours using a standard plug, while fast charging will finish the job in 1.5 hours.
