Volkswagen, at the unveil event of the Taigo, revealed the car can be fitted with semi-autonomous driving tech
Volkswagen has finally been able to unveil the Taigo coupe SUV in Europe, months after it finalised the moniker for the vehicle and released its design sketches.
The compact crossover is based on the Nivus that is sold in Brazil and comes with trendy styling, which the buying public seem to love more and more.
With full LED lighting, raked windscreen, rising waistline, large wheels and full body cladding on the lower portion, the Taigo will be loved by the crossover-obsessed car buyers.
There are nice touches like the tinted tail lamps that are split and full-width and the crossbar that splits the radiator grille in half.
When compared with the Nivus, the Taigo gets updated bumpers, new lights and a new set of wheels which range from 16 inches to 18 inches.
On the inside, the Taigo shares the same dashboard as the Nivus, but, the upholstery is different. However it is not a bad thing, for the compact crossover is packed with new age features.
There is a digital instrument cluster (8-inch or 10.25-inch), a touchscreen (6.5-inch, 8-inch or 9.2-inch) for the infotainment system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, natural voice control and cloud-based personalisation using ‘Volkswagen ID, among other features on offer.
The front-wheel drive Taigo will be offered with 2 engine choices – a 1.0-litre turbo petrol (95 HP or 110 HP) and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol (150 HP).
As for the gearboxes, the 95 HP model gets a 5-speed manual, the 110 HP and 150 HP variants get a 6-speed manual, while a 7-speed DSG will also be on offer.
During the Volkswagen Taigo unveil event, it was revealed that the compact crossover will be equipped with driver assistance tech such as Front Assist, Lane Assist and city emergency brake function as standard. The IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist is available as an optional extra.
To go on sale in the UK later this year, the Taigo should cost from £23,000 (Rs. 23.85 lakhs) and is unlikely to come to India, for the Taigun is scheduled for launch here.
